Thursdays-September 7th- 28th-Milestones-400 Eastern Ave. Toronto
Method acting, informally known as The Method, is a range of training and rehearsal techniques, as formulated by a number of different theatre practitioners, that seeks to encourage sincere and expressive performances through identifying with, understanding, and experiencing a character's inner motivation and emotions. These techniques are built on Stanislavski's system.
I am offering an intensive designed to give you tools to better inhabit the characters you play and to allow you to bring more spontaneity and originality to your work in auditions and bookings. This is a 2 Day course- 6 hrs. per day, where you will be guided in relaxation technique, sense memory and improv to deepen the connection to the material and help you to become more natural. This is an adult course, suitable for all levels. If you are struggling with bookings it may be that they are consistently “seeing your acting.” It’s the biggest complaint I’ve heard from casting- when you act as though you are the character, imposing what you think they want to see-on camera it looks fake. So take this intensive and start being able to trust letting them see you as the character- full of life and authenticity! Let’s do this!
What to expect:
*The first half of each day will be a specific relaxation technique to help you deal with performance anxiety and to help you access your emotions while acting. Then we will work on sense memory exercises to help with dealing with character building and text.
What is sense memory?
Sense memory is a technique in which an actor draws on the memory of sensations from personal experiences to create a genuine response in their characters.
* The second half of each day will be used to apply the techniques to scenes or monologues.
Each process intensive will also introduce one or two new Method practices that I do not offer in my weekly classes.
